Inviting diverse families into the dialogic and transformational construction of children’s literacies

Abstract

The underlying rationale for the presentation stems from research findings that educational process can be transforming when teachers learn about the everyday lived contexts of their students’ lives and the strengths that they bring to school. This symposium consists of three papers and explores a continuum of cultural practices occurring within and outside of school contexts, in which family literacy plays out as an important cultural practice.
