Online Multimodal Reading Strategies for Elementary and Middle School Students’ Conceptual Knowledge and Vocabulary Building

Abstract

Students need reading strategies to comprehend multimodal texts online. These abilities involve building conceptual knowledge and vocabulary to comprehend multimodal texts for academic success. This paper focuses on reading strategies and instruction for constructing conceptual knowledge and vocabulary during online multimodal reading. We identified five key strategies to support K-8 online readers. We described how to instruct K-8 students on these strategies as they build knowledge and vocabulary through online multimodal reading.
