Drawing on literacy as a social practice and AsianCrit perspectives, this roundtable presentation will explore how Asian American youth in a Youth Participatory Action Research community drew on their experiential civic literacies — or, their meaning-making about democratic life that stem from their everyday experiences — to conceptualize their civic identities and aspirations. Foregrounding Asian American youths’ experience-infused literate civic resources, this research will resist their dominant framings as apolitical “model minorities” in and beyond literacy studies.
