Beyond Banality: Thoughtfulness, Narrative Agency, and the Literary Imagination

Fri, December 5, 8:30 to 10:00am, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, Celebrity Ballroom 6

Abstract

In a time characterized as a post-truth era, the English language arts classroom remains one of the few spaces in contemporary society where young people are granted opportunities—through intergenerational dialogue with teachers—to thoughtfully navigate the narrative environments in which they are immersed. This paper inquires into the role of the literary imagination in the experiences of teachers and their students as they contend with the narratives that circulate in their lives and communities.
