Aliteracy in College – Another “Reading War?”

Abstract

The origin of LRA is rooted in preparing students to read in college. What do we make of the claim that college students are less able and less willing to read? We will use historical methodologies to overview the history of the field of reading in college and post-secondary education. We will then use terminological methods to identify terms to evaluate how those terms have been used by those within and outside of education.
