Abstract

This study examines the preparation of pre-service teachers to lead after-school book clubs in a predominantly white Midwest community. It explores how they practice reading strategies and leadership, encouraging 4th graders to respond to literature. The findings highlight the literacy instruction strategies used by pre-service teachers and their impact on students' literacy development.
