This case study examines the roles of peer interaction on literacy practices of three multilingual and three monolingual seventh graders across content areas. Data included student and teacher interviews, ethnographic interviews and classroom observations. The analysis revealed that peer answer copying was the most frequent practice. This study re-evaluates adolescent copying, commonly perceived as transgressive, as a valid expression of literacy and disciplinary literacy practices.
