In this presentation, I seek to shed light on how YA literature might contribute to discussions and perceptions of menstruation that work to dispel taboos and construct counterstories of pride. Building upon data collected through a CCA of two YA novels, this presentation discusses links connecting menstruation and werewolf mythology, and how the novels present important counterstories, focusing not on shame and silence, but on connections to the earth, physical ability, power, and potential.
