Fri, December 5, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, Celebrity Ballroom 6

Abstract

The goal of this study was to examine how the use of culturally responsive literacy boards in a literacy tutoring/mentoring context can inform and scaffold preservice teachers' understanding and pedagogical development as literacy teachers. We draw from the concepts of hybrid spaces for supporting teacher preparation, culturally responsive teaching, and culturally responsive literacy practice framework. Findings show the culturally responsive literacy boards influenced the preservice teachers’ thinking and learning related to culturally responsive teaching.
