Viewing literacy as assemblage, this paper explores the empowering potential of community-based literacy through a nuanced analysis of a “successful” Chinese rural student’s narrative. Focusing on Bo’s community-rooted literacies assembled across rural and urban boundaries, this study reveals how literacy assemblage fosters intercultural competence and self-worth, highlighting the power of community-based literacy for marginalized students.
