This roundtable interrogates how literacy grants and programs fail to center Black home and community literacies, reinforcing school-centric deficit narratives. Drawing on Black geographies and literacy as resistance, this discussion explores how Black families cultivate literacy beyond institutional boundaries. Participants will examine the implications for policy and practice, considering how literacy research can better honor and integrate Black linguistic and cultural knowledge into broader literacy frameworks.
