Historically, languages like African American English (AAE) or Black Language (BL) have been perceived as inferior to Standard American English (SAE) (Kroskrity, 2021). In this qualitative study, the raciolinguistic experiences of Black students at Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs) were examined through CRT’s tenet of Whiteness as Property. The findings highlight the concept of appropriateness and Black collegiate students’ (un)successful attempts to avoid anti-Black linguistic racism (Baker-Bell, 2020) on their college campuses.
