"Literacy is Everywhere!" Bringing Alive History in a Place-Based Professional Development on Saipan

• In Event: Examining Literacy Across Contexts to Read the World

Abstract

This proposal reports findings from a qualitative study of a professional development program funded by the NEH on the island of Saipan. K-12 educators from across the US gathered to learn about and engage with landmarks on and around Saipan using a place-based approach. The goal of the intensive study was for educators to bring alive history through literacy and connect human experiences in their own educational contexts.
