Bridging Divides with Diverse Children’s Literature

Thu, December 4, 8:30 to 10:00am, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, Sunset 1

Abstract

This research examines how preservice teachers' perceptions about how and when to use diverse literature changed through participation in a children’s literature course. Preliminary results indicate how preservice teachers identify and discuss diverse topics in texts and how they facilitate discussions about those texts to bridge divides. Implications for supporting preservice teachers (PSTs) in utilizing and discussing diverse texts to bridge divides between future students will be explored.
