Teaching and Learning English Literacy via Integrated Skills Approach

Abstract

This ongoing phenomenological study investigates teaching and learning literacy through the Integrated Skills Approach (ISA). The research explores the lived experiences of an instructor and adult international English Learners to examine if and how ISA enhances literacy development. The study thus far reveals that initial stages of literacy learning and teaching may involve acculturative stress. However, with effective instructional techniques and cultural integration and support, student participants had improved linguistic competence and confidence.
