This systematic review synthesized empirical research on visual tools in ESL/EFL writing instruction. Findings indicated visual tools enhance idea generation, organization, and vocabulary development, though effects on coherence and grammar remain inconsistent. Students’ engagement with visual tools varies by instructional approaches and familiarity. The study identified methodological gaps and variability in instructional strategies, emphasizing the need for structured implementation and teacher training to effectively integrate visual tools into ESL/EFL writing instruction.
