The presentation will describe a project which empowers mothers in multicultural, low-income communities to foster early literacy using everyday resources. Grounded in emergent literacy and sociocultural theories, the project uses an itinerant exhibition and workshops to transform household items into literacy tools. Research highlights neurological, sociocultural, and play-based aspects of literacy. The intervention addresses barriers, demonstrating increased maternal confidence and understanding. Findings will be disseminated, discussing practical implications and scalability for diverse, resource-limited communities.
