What if early reading instruction was more like creative movement dance class? This paper shares findings from a study exploring how one dance studio honored and cultivated young dancers’ meaning-making and civic agency efforts through embodied read-aloud, a form of interactive read-aloud. Findings suggest embodied read-alouds can integrate traditional and less common evidence-based comprehension-building practices while promoting children’s civic agency.
