Abstract

This paper critically examines Sarah Tracy’s (2010) widely referenced “big-tent” criteria for qualitative research quality, questioning their universal applicability across diverse theoretical frameworks, particularly in visual and multimodal literacy research. While acknowledging the contributions of Tracy’s criteria, we argue that critical qualitative literacy research should not be atheoretical in design.
