This poster session considers characteristics of middle school writing that demonstrate childhood trauma, along with the themes of resiliency and hope, that emerge from the first-person accounts from students. Using a framework of trauma-informed pedagogy, this study analyzes themes that surfaced surrounding trauma and steps educators can take to support students that share traumatic experiences through written expression to move towards a place where hope and resiliency can co-exist with trauma.
