Trauma, Resiliency and Hope: Co-existing in Middle School Writing

Wed, December 3, 1:15 to 2:45pm, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, The Mezzanine

Abstract

This poster session considers characteristics of middle school writing that demonstrate childhood trauma, along with the themes of resiliency and hope, that emerge from the first-person accounts from students. Using a framework of trauma-informed pedagogy, this study analyzes themes that surfaced surrounding trauma and steps educators can take to support students that share traumatic experiences through written expression to move towards a place where hope and resiliency can co-exist with trauma.
