Over the past several years, we have investigated our experiences navigating the differences and divides of race in academia and have examined how critical dialogue fosters antiracist practices and coalition-building. Organic conversations after George Floyd’s murder evolved into structured dialogues and faculty workshops on antiracism in academia. Using duoethnography, we document our journey from self-investigation to coalition, including our grappling and the transformative potential of self-excavation to foster civil literacies including solidarity, accountability, and action.
