This research-in-progress explores the impact of Spanish L1 on English L2 literacy skills through a meta-analysis of existing studies. Focusing on bilingual and multilingual settings, we examine the relationship between Spanish L1 language comprehension and English L2 reading comprehension across languages. Findings contribute to discussions on linguistic interdependence, translanguaging pedagogies, and bilingual assessment practices. By aligning with the conference theme, this work seeks to bridge divides in literacy education through a nuanced understanding of language transfer.
