Abstract

Although millions of secondary students require foundational reading and writing support, secondary teachers across disciplines are often not prepared to support their literacy needs. This paper looks at how teacher educators in one teacher preparation program in California currently prepare preservice secondary teachers to support emerging readers and writers through class observations, interviews, and a content analysis of their curriculum. This research offers insight into current practice and suggests opportunities for growth.
