"No me llames líder / Don’t call me a leader" Latine/x Immigrants Co-Designing Intergenerational Participatory Action Research through Communal Research Literacies

Wed, December 3, 10:15 to 11:45am, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, Melrose 2

Abstract

Drawing on Anzaldua’s concept of choques or cultural collisions, and on sociocultural understandings of literacy, this study aks: How do un/documented and transnational Latine/x immigrants co-facilitate a longitudinal, intergenerational participatory study on the impact of COVID-19 on their communities? What role does literacy play in this process? We found our choques required literacy and language to negotiate across our differing borderlands, leading us to engage “communal research literacies” to respond to COVID-19.
