Reading difficult histories can demonstrate that injustice faced today is not an individual malfunction but may have sociohistorical roots. Historical fiction offers a safe third space for readers to investigate such themes of injustice to imagine a just future. This presentation will present a scoping review on the description, selection criterion, purposes, and teaching practices used for reading and teaching historical fiction. It will conclude with research and pedagogical implications for teaching historical fiction.
