Abstract

The annual conference theme: “Civil Literacies: Cultivating Productive Action Across Differences and Divides,” calls for literacy research and researchers to “cultivate productive action across differences and divides. We are also challenged to “engage actively, critically, civilly, and collaboratively” with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and community members. These beliefs are consistent with the foundational ideals of design-based research (DBR), which promotes collaboration between practitioners, researchers, and all who benefit from humanitarian literacy research.
