The Strategic Logic of Fertilizer Subsidies in Africa: Rural Producer Organizations and Politicians

Brief Overview

I argue rural producer organizations form blocs of voters who bargain with national politicians, exchanging votes for goods, services, and policy. Using surveys from 7 countries I find support for my argument, which outperforms alternative theories.
