A Separation-of-Powers Model of Chief Justice Opinion Assignment

Brief Overview

Chief Justices' opinion assignment decisions between 1953 to 1990 are analyzed. I find that the ideological distance between the chief and a justice as a predictor of assignment decisions is significantly moderated by SOP factors.
