Political Hierarchy and Political Pressure: The Environmental Regulation Power of Local Governments in China

Brief Overview

We exploit city-level data and firm-level data to study how political pressure affects local government’s regulation power. Using DID and IV estimation, we find that decreasing political pressure increases local governments’ regulation power.
