Colonial Cash Crops and Political Power in Sub-Saharan Africa

Brief Overview

We show that ethnic groups whose homelands saw colonial cash crop production are overrepresented in post-colonial cabinets. Rather than being a static colonial legacy, representation levels respond to market values of locally produced crops.
