A Quality-based Explanation for the Incumbency Curse

Brief Overview

We develop a model and show empirically that the incumbency disadvantage identified in Klasnja and Titiunik (2017) is subject to a quality-based bias. Applying EITM framework, we devise an estimation method to identify a party incumbency effect.
