Party discipline as ideal points: a Bayesian Item Response Theory approach

Brief Overview

Party discipline has been a central issue in the debate over Brazilian politics. In this paper I propose a Bayesian IRT Model to estimate party discipline in roll-call votes and test it using 1987-1988 Brazilian Constitutional Congress data.
