The Mediating Effect of Racial, Gender, and Immigrant Resentment on Evaluations of Candidate Valence in the 2016 Congressional Elections

Brief Overview

Using the 2016 ANES and original data on Congressional challengers, we explore when resentment allows voters to discount candidate valence. Results suggest as resentment increases, the importance of candidate valence in vote choice decreases.
