Taking liberties?: Trade with China and civil liberties in Africa

Brief Overview

I use V-DEM and trade data to find the impact of trade with China on civil liberties in African states. I find that conducting more trade with China (as a portion of total trade) lessens the likelihood of civil liberties improvement.
