Mitigation Ambiguity and Prudence in Climate Pledges

Brief Overview

We demonstrate theoretically how states face a dilemma between ambitious pledging and achievable compliance in climate cooperation; and show empirically that ambiguity induces states to exercise prudence in the ambition level of climate pledges.
