Gunshots and Turf Wars: Inferring Gang Territory from Administrative Data

Brief Overview

We show that the frequency and location of shootings are sufficient statistics for the number of gangs operating in a city and the territorial partition between them. Using a panel of geolocated shooting data we estimate these quantities for Chicago.
