The Racist Card: Denial of Racism as a Conservative Counterstrategy

Brief Overview

We argue that racial appeals do not spark self-monitoring because white conservatives do not believe that racial callouts are genuine. We test this with an IE experiment where a Republican candidate calls out Democrats for “playing the racist card”.
