Colonial Legacies, Collective Efficacy, and Rural Development: Evidence from the Togo-Ghana Border

Fri, April 14, 9:45 to 11:15am CDT (9:45 to 11:15am CDT), TBA

Brief Overview

This paper argues that modes of colonial control had a lasting legacy on local collective efficacy in rural West Africa. Original survey data from the Ghana-Togo borderlands shows that collective efficacy is systematically higher in Ghana today.
