Lessons Learned from a Meta-Analysis of the Populist Appeals Literature

Brief Overview

We find that populist appeals, on average, cause a 3.1 percentage point increase in populist attitudes as well as a 4.5 percentage point increase in electoral support. On average, populist appeals do not affect political engagement.
