The Effect of Terrorism on the Size of the Shadow Economy

Brief Overview

We find a positive effect of terrorism on the shadow economy. We argue that terrorism contributes to the size of the shadow economy through economic hardship and loss in social capital, encouraging actors' involvement in informal economic activities.
