Rent Seeking versus Extraction: Converse Corruption Cycles in Vietnam

Brief Overview

We show evidence from Vietnam that political horizon has mixed effects on politicians' corruption. Divergent results stem from two corruption types: rent-seeking has a U-shaped relation with tenure, while extractive follows an inverse U-shape.
