Verbal Attacks on ISIS Increased Violence Against Civilians

Brief Overview

We use Bayesian structural VAR models to analyze daily event data on interactions between ISIS and foreign governments for 2014-2021. Rather than deterring ISIS from attacking civilians, verbal conflict substantially increased those attacks.
