Co-optation for Repression: How does China Employ Social Elites in Judicial Repression

Brief Overview

It argues that autocrats can co-opt social elites to repress regime threats through legitimate methods. I find that the Chinese government strategically co-opt lawyers, who selectively deliver justice and preemptively suppress potential threats.
