Braver Angels is a national movement on a mission to bring Americans together to bridge the partisan divide and strengthen our democratic republic. We work on college campuses, in communities, in the media, and in the halls of political power. Most of our work is by volunteers from across the political spectrum who bring life experience and expertise to the work of solving the problem of political polarization.
Leadership on our Board, in states, and in local Alliances, is a 50/50 mix of liberals and conservatives - we believe that our toxic political culture can only be fixed by people of different political beliefs working together.
Our current priority issue is Immigration. The goal of the Citizens Commission on Immigration is to demonstrate to Congress and the nation that Americans with differing views on immigration can find common ground. The Commission works in a red/blue balanced way and includes Americans from all sides of the issue. It was launched after a red/blue balanced group of about 750 delegates at the 2024 Braver Angels National Convention gathered and voted to establish immigration as a Braver Angels priority issue. This is following in the footsteps of our successful
Trustworthy Elections Campaign.
We greatly appreciate support from political scientists. Our missions overlap and your prominence in universities assures the chance to promote civil discussions on campus and college education that includes the skill of bridging differences.
On over 100 campuses so far, our
College Debates and Discourse Program provides a new style of debate billed as
a collective search for the truth. Its impact on helping students to engage with opposing views is discussed in
College Debates. The program - a Braver Angels partnership with the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) and BridgeUSA - also offers a curricular toolkit and free debate Chair training for faculty and student leaders.
Braver Politics offers communication skills training and experiences of bridging the divide and relationship-building for elected officials and staff, and for candidates and elected officials meeting with constituents and colleagues who disagree with them.
Our events generally are free of charge and we offer free training for our organizers, workshop moderators, debate chairs, Zoom event managers, ambassadors, and more.
