Measuring Prosecutorial and Judicial Independence in the United States

Brief Overview

Using a longitudinal survey of U.S. state law and budgetary provisions, I construct novel indices of prosecutorial and judicial independence. This paper evaluates both their socio-political predictors, and their consequences on state crime rates.
