Summary

Urban schoolyards are science learning spaces but building-level policies and administrative practices limit access. Urban students deserve outdoor, science learning experiences. Urban teachers, while learning to teach science outdoors, are developing connections and attachments to their schoolyards which support them in being creatively insubordinate (Gutierrez, 2016) when taking students outdoors.
