Children, Gender and Toys: A qualitative study of children and gender targeted toys

Abstract

This study examines the use of verb elements on the way children discuss gender typed and neutral toys. The study considers how children identify their gender identity with a toy, the way in which toys are conveyed to children and how these message resonate with other experiences and advertising that impact gender identity development.
