Embodiment of Truth: The Educator in Plato’s Cave

Sat, November 17, 12:30 to 1:45pm, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Lower Level, Northwest 4

Abstract

Technological advances in education lead to moral and ethical questions of the true nature of higher education. Plato's allegory of the cave along with Heidegger’s premise of the need for “re-essentializing the notion of excellence,” yield themselves to a close reinterpretation of Plato’s cave and with its implications on modern day education. Ultimately, the educator as a philosopher is called to return to the cave to bring capital “T” truth to those enslaved in darkness.
