Abstract

African American music is the major cultural art form to communicate the worldview of the Black community. The research of the panelists will focus on three dimensions of James Brown: Describe the political-economic world view of James Brown with regard to the transformation of the Black musical aesthetic in the sixties, analyze Brown’s impact on African American identity, and discuss the intersection between Brown’s development as a gospel, soul artist and his contribution to hip-hop music.
