This paper examines decision making in prenatal consultations, how obstetricians (OBs) and midwives differ, and the role of uncertainty in these processes. Using participant-observation, comparative case study methodology, pregnant women and their providers (OBs and midwives) were observed in pre- and post-natal consultations, and in-depth interviews were conducted with mothers and providers. Problematic Integration theory is employed to understand provider decision making practices and the influence of uncertainty on these practices.
